Gov. Abbott directive: TCEQ to halt data center permits pending the ERCOT and TWDB audits

On September 21, 2026 Governor Greg Abbott directed the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to halt all permits sought by data centers until ERCOT completes its audit, stating that no state agency shall move forward with regulatory approvals related to data center development until the PUCT, ERCOT and Texas Water Development Board audits supply the needed information.
